Joel Hans Embiid is a Cameroonian professional basketball player for the Philadelphia 76ers of the National Basketball Association who also holds French and American Citizenship.
He played for one year of College basketball with the Kansas Jayhawks and was drafted third overall by the 76ers in the 2014 NBA draft.His injuries delayed his debut for two seasons untill 2016-17.He was named to the NBA All-rookie First Team.
In his childhood he originally played basketball at age 15 modeling his game after NBA Hall of Fame centre Hakeem Olajauwon.Embiid attended Montverde Academy, Mbah a Moute’s alma mater, but left after one year due to a lack of playing time.He then went to The Rock School, a Christian boarding school in Gainesville, Florida.
In 2023, Embiid won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award.
